Great news for the tech-savvy pigs out there! The Kids’ Marathon Hog Log is now available in an interactive format! Thanks to the support of Fleet Feet Sports, we now have an online version of the Hog Log. You can tally your miles, nutrition, and reading on our own paperless version. Frequently asked questions for the Flying Pig Kids Marathon 26th Mile
What about race bib and shirt pick-up?
If you registered as part of a school or group and your leader has picked up for your group, all you need to do is show up with your race bib pinned to the front of your shirt!
If you still need to get your race bib and shirt you have 2 options:
Go to the pre-registered packet pick-up area for the Kids Marathon at the expo on Friday May 4th, noon-7pm at the Duke Energy Center.
Go to Reds Hall of Fame race morning BEFORE 11:30am on race day. All unclaimed bibs and remaining shirts will be there prior to the race.
NO NEW REGSITRATION FOR KID’S MILE ON RACE DAY
How will the “wave” start work?
The Kids Marathon 26th Mile has nearly 4,000 participants. Most are in an organized group. We have assigned groups to 1 of 6 waves that will go off in about 5 minute intervals, beginning at noon. This is to keep the finish line flowing smoothly and the children safe. If you are not part of a group, you can self-seed yourself into one of the wave starts.
Can a parent run/walk with their child?
Many adults have registered to be an official participant. If you are not registered but you and/or your child are concerned about getting separated, you may certainly stay with your child. We simply ask that you not take a medal at the finish. We want everyone to feel safe, secure and have fun, and reward those kids who have tallied all those miles.
How do we see the children finish and where do they exit?
The finish line needs to be a safe and secure place. Unfortunately we cannot allow spectators access inside the finish area. Once they cross the Finish”Swine”, they will be directed to chutes that will keep them moving towards their medals, and recovery snacks. They will exit eventually at the corner of Broadway and Mehring Way near the big red Paddle Wheel monument. It is a good idea for you to show this area to your child before the race. A great place to view the finish is from above on the plaza level of the US Bank Arena.
What do I do with my Hog Log?
We would love to see all those miles, nutrition challenges and reading minutes that on logs. The Nutrition Council of Greater Cincinnati has a special prize for anyone who brings their Hog Log to their booth at the Family Funfest at Yeatman’s Cove. And keep on logging miles, eating healthy, and reading everyday.
What if we cannot attend the 26th Mile?
If you cannot be there on May 5th, we hope you will complete your marathon on your own in grand fashion. But if you need your medal, just send us an email after the weekend is over and we will let you know if we have any left.
The Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon is a great opportunity for families, schools and groups. As part of The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, we would like to promote childhood fitness, family fun, and a lifetime marathon of healthy habits.
This program is designed for children ages 5-12 years old along with their fitness buddies (parents, teachers, leaders, mentors). IT IS NOT A RACE! Using the “Hog Log” (see link below), you can begin now and walk, jog or wheelchair the distance of a marathon, in small increments, at your own pace. Always exercise in a safe area and wear appropriate clothes and shoes.
Along with marathon miles, in your Hog Log are some Nutrition Challenges to help children make healthy eating a lifelong habit; simple steps on their marathon of good health. You can visit The Nutrition Council’s website www.nutritioncouncil.org to get your Flying Pig Nutrition Tip Sheets and more healthy eating resources.
Exercising the brain is very important too. So part of the Kids’ Marathon is to add an additional challenge to the Hog Log of 15 minutes of extra reading. The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has terrific resources to promote fun with reading. Visit their website at kidspace.cincinnatilibrary.org to learn more.

A marathon is no easy task. A Greek warrior named Pheilippines first ran this awesome distance to the town of Marathon in order to deliver a message to the citizens of their military victory 26 miles away. After Pheilippines reached his destination, he breathlessly exclaimed, “We are victorious!” World-class runners win marathons in little over 2 hours. However, the average finishing time is 4-5 hours. We want you to spread your marathon over several months and have a lot of fun and develop healthy habits for life.
Cancellation Policy for the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
Entry fees are non-refundable; race numbers and entries cannot be transferred to another year or person. No exceptions. This means once we have received your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate, or if the event is cancelled because of weather, natural disaster or other unforeseen circumstances.
